How PvP Odds Actually Work

Robbing, jacking, attacking and sabotaging another player all resolve the same way under the hood: the server rolls a single success percentage and shows it to you before you commit. Nothing here is decided by your browser — the client only ever reports what the server already computed.

Gear helps, but it tapers off

Weapons and vehicles both contribute a bonus to your odds, but stacking gear doesn't stack linearly. Your best item counts at full weight, your second-best at about half weight, your third at about a quarter, and so on. Buying five weapons doesn't give you five times the edge of buying one — it's a strong case for owning a few well-chosen pieces of gear rather than hoarding a pile of cheap ones.

Nobody is ever a lock

However lopsided a matchup looks — max gear versus none, top rank versus a fresh Associate — the final number is always clamped between 5% and 95%. That floor and ceiling are hard rules, not flavor text: even the best-equipped crew boss can lose one fight in twenty, and even a day-one Associate always has a puncher's chance. The game shows you the real number before you commit specifically so you can make that call with full information.

Anyone above you is fair game

There is a matchmaking band on who you can pick a fight with, and it only ever stops you punching down. Taking a swing at someone bigger than you is never refused, however far ahead of you they are — the biggest name on the server is a legal target for a day-one Soldier.

Whether it's a good idea is a separate question, and the page tells you: the odds are printed before you commit, and against someone properly equipped they will be the 5% floor. But the game will let you try, and the top of the ladder is the most exposed place on it rather than the safest.

Being "busy"

You cannot be attacked, robbed, jacked or sabotaged while you are jailed, hospitalized, or in the air between cities. Those three are the only safe windows there are.

Being mid-crime or mid-heist is not one of them, despite what this page used to say — those stop you from starting a fight, not other people from starting one with you. You cannot hide inside a job.

There are no permanent safe cities either. The only standing protection is a Bodyguard, either the free one every new account starts with or one you hire later — and its price scales with what you have worth protecting, savings included. Going on the offensive yourself immediately drops your own bodyguard cover: it shields you for lying low, not for raiding.
