Posting & Filling a Hit

A hit contract is just a bounty on a specific player — a public board entry anyone can see, and anyone can fill by successfully attacking the target. There's no separate "hitman" role; any player who lands the attack collects the payout.

Where contracts come from

Some hits are posted by players directly. Others are posted by NPC crews holding a grudge — an NPC crew that's recently lost territory to you may put a price on your head in response, remembered and acted on over time rather than randomly. Either way, a contract sitting on the board is a real, live target, not flavor text.

Counterplay

If you find yourself with a hit posted on you, you're not defenseless: you can buy the contract off the board yourself to cancel it, and a Bodyguard already blocks a claim attempt for free like it blocks any other incoming attack.

There's a third answer, and it's the direct one. Kill whoever put the contract up, before their hit lands, and every open contract they had on you dies with them — and you get paid for it.

What you collect depends on who was doing the hiring. Another player's bounty pays out in full, clean: that money left their pocket the moment they posted it and it was sitting there waiting for whoever collected, which is now you. An NPC crew never set money aside for theirs, so killing the boss who marked you pays a reduced share, in dirty cash — worth doing, worth less than the job was worth to them. Either way it beats paying them off.

One limit, and it's the word first: this is for getting to your hunter before they get to you. If the price on your head is there because you killed them, killing them again won't clear it. Their people have longer memories than that.

The Marksman's edge

Marksman doesn't get a bigger payout for filling contracts — that's what the skill tree's bounty-reward bonus already covers. Instead, a Marksman gets intel and timing: visibility into a target's city and live status, a head-start window before a new contract goes fully public, and reduced Heat from carrying out a hit. The class's edge is getting there first and getting there clean, not a bigger check at the end.
