ModernMaffia is in active development. Balance, features, and mechanics can change at any time, and the game world may be reset or wiped without notice.

What Is ModernMaffia?

ModernMaffia is a browser-based organized-crime game. No app, no download — you log in, run rackets, and build a name for yourself one crime at a time. This page is the deep dive; if you just want a quick answer, the FAQ is faster.

Picking a specialization

Every player chooses one of four paths at signup:

  • Street — the drug trade is your world: bonus Demand Board orders and lower bust risk on deliveries.
  • Hacker — you (and your crew, if you have one) see live drug prices in every city at once, not just the one you're standing in.
  • Financier — you cut a better deal laundering money, for yourself and for crewmates who route their wash through you.
  • Marksman — PvP and bounty hunting are your lane: target intel, a head start on hit contracts, and reduced Heat from hits.

You're not locked in forever. Your Profile page has a "Danger Zone" reset that wipes your character back to a fresh start — cash, rank, stats, gear, all of it, except your crew — but it can only be used once every 7 days. Pick with intent; don't treat it as a costume change.

The three numbers that run your character

  • Energy — impatience money. Nothing in the game requires Energy any more; it buys your way past a cooldown when you would rather not wait. It refills on its own.
  • Health — drops when you lose a fight and land in the hospital.
  • Heat — attention from the law. Rises as you commit crimes (faster while holding stolen gear), and if it climbs too high you risk a raid or a jail stint. It cools on its own, or you can bribe it down.

Everything else in the game — crews, territory, PvP, the drug trade, hit contracts — builds on top of these three.

Cooldowns, not bars

What actually paces you is a cooldown per activity, and they never talk to each other. Pull a job and that job's board goes quiet for a bit; the other ranks stay open. Rob somebody and the rob is on a clock while an attack, a turf grab and a jailbreak are all still live.

That is deliberate. There is no shared pool left that one action can drain and leave you with nothing to do — if something is cooling, something else is not.

Every clock also has a price on it. Energy buys past any of them, charged per minute of wait you are skipping, and the page always tells you the figure before you press. Spending nothing is always an option: the clock runs down on its own either way.
